(3) It's A Matter of Equality.  How would you feel if the President of United States openly stated that you don't deserve the basic civil rights that everyone else enjoys?  That you and your spouse have no right to marry, no right to have your relationship recognized, no right to visit each other in the hospital, and no right to make medical and legal decisions for each other?  Your spouse has been in a terrible car accident.  You rush to the hospital but the staff at the front desk informs you that you are not allowed in because you are "not family."  You'd might as well be a stranger off the street.  Even though you've been together for more than 15 years like we have and you own a house and cars and other assets together in a stable and productive relationship, you are a second class citizen in John McCain's world.  Sorry sucker. Simply because we're different from him, John McCain doesn't believe we deserve those rights.  Even worse, he doesn't think we're fit to be parents and believes our child should be taken away - despite the fact that we're loving parents, providing a stable and enriching upbringing for our kid.  That's the profile of John McCain on gay issues.  Pretty sickening.   Despite what your position may be on gay marriage, John McCain's opinions go way beyond that.  His policies advocate denying basic civil rights to millions of gay and lesbian Americans.  Watch this.  Don't misunderstand something here: no one is asking for special treatment or extra rights.  We're just hoping to have the same rights and responsibilities as everyone else.  Nothing less.  Nothing more.  John McCain believes in much less. It's not just an issue of gay rights.  It's apparently an issue of all civil rights.  The NAACP gave John McCain a score of 7% (out of 100%) for his positions on civil rights and the ACLU gave him a score of zero.  Perhaps someday John McCain will realize that gay and lesbian people don't choose to be gay anymore than African-American people choose to be black.
